In Admin Buttons, everything starts with a button that you create to perform a task from within Shopify Admin.

Shopify "data objects" are basically the "nouns" that you manage in Shopify, and include many of the left nav items of admin. Depending on where your button lives in admin, it can send one object (from an order detail page, for instance) or multiple objects (from the "Orders" list page).

You can set up your form to add information to the Shopify object being passed, telling the destination tool more about what you want to do with it. You can use key-value pairs to pass the same info with every button click, and/or gather unique info each time with a simple form.

You have a few options for catching the data. Shopify's Flow automation tool can use the data to get things done with other objects or send notifications, for example. Or an external automation service like Zapier or Relay.app can catch the data and carry out multiple automation steps in across multiple other tools. Those actions could even end with a call back to Shopify to update the original order, customer or product page.
