Automate Tasks and Boost Efficiency with the Admin Buttons App

Updated over a week ago

Have you ever wished you could customize Shopify’s admin to fit your store team’s unique workflows? Imagine being able to send a Slack message directly from the order page or applying wholesale discounts to all items on a draft order with a single click. What if you could tag all the products in a collection or swap out product tags in bulk—all without complex coding?

Introducing Admin Buttons by Even Better, the app designed to let you create custom buttons that streamline tasks and workflows right within your Shopify admin. I’m Cam from Even Better Apps, and in this post, I’ll walk you through how to set up these time-saving customizations in Admin Buttons.

Customize and Automate Repetitive Tasks

The Admin Buttons app allows you to set up custom workflows tailored to your store’s needs. Let’s look at a few examples of how these buttons can boost your productivity:

Send a Slack message from the order page to notify your team.

Apply wholesale discounts to line items on a draft order with just one click.

Tag all products in a collection with a custom set of tags.

Swap product tags across multiple products in a single step.

Example: Copying an Order as a Draft with Discounts

Let’s dive into a real-world use case: copying an order as a draft. With Admin Buttons, you can create a custom button to duplicate an order and optionally add a discount to the new draft order.

Here’s how it works:

1. Set up a button that allows your team to copy an existing order as a draft.

2. Add a form field that lets you enter a discount, such as 15%, and a label like “Marketing.”

3. After duplicating the order, the app automatically adds the discount to each line item, creates the draft, and leaves a note in the original order for reference.

Creating a Custom Button in Admin Buttons

To create this customization:

1. Use a predefined template from Admin Buttons or create your button from scratch. In this example, we’ll use the “Create Draft Order from Existing Order” template.

2. Customize the button’s appearance and behavior. For instance, you can change the button name, color, and form fields.

3. Define the form and field values—such as changing a discount type to “reseller.”

4. Save and activate the button.

Once your button is set, you can add it to any order page in your Shopify admin using the App Block feature. Pin it in place so it’s always ready to use.

Triggering Workflows with Shopify Flow, Mechanic, or Zapier

Admin Buttons also integrates seamlessly with Shopify Flow, Mechanic, or Zapier. In the case of creating a draft order, Admin Buttons can send the form data to Shopify Flow, triggering a workflow that:

• Creates a draft order.

• Applies a discount to each item.

• Tags the original order for easy tracking.

Admin Buttons includes predefined templates that work directly with Shopify Flow, meaning you don’t need to create these automations from scratch. Just install the corresponding template, activate it, and you’re ready to go!

Save Time with Admin Buttons

With Admin Buttons, your team can save time and streamline common tasks in Shopify. By gathering consistent data through customized forms and automating workflows, you can improve efficiency without the need for custom development. Whether you want to collect information, apply bulk actions, or trigger complex workflows, Admin Buttons makes it easy.
